African Harrier Leather Mask by merimask African Harrier Leather Mask by merimask
Here's a new design I just finished this afternoon. Based on an exotic hawk with striking, bright coloring; an African Harrier.

As ever, this is carved and shaped from one piece of 8 ounce vegetable-tanned tooling leather. Painted with Liquitex acrylics.

This mask is available for a short time in my shop; [link]

Wow, how did I miss this mask? It's lovely!

The shape is great, and the instant I saw it I imagined it rendered as one of your Venetians....

Great work!

I love how bold the coloring is on this mask. Think you'd ever try a secretary bird?

And there we go.. the feathers have happened. I love the mask and i knew you could make the feathers look like feathers with out resorting to gluing (ugh) chicken fluffs to it. this is magnificent.

The eyes on this! So bright!! It almost reminds me of those secretary birds, with it short curved beak and bright eyes. I simply LOVE the colors on this one! He kind of has a grumpy face. >:c Lol. Great job!!!

Had to look that one up. I think you did a great job capturing the essence of the bird as a mask! Quite an intense looking bird, and an intense looking mask.

I've always loved your bird masks! I loved the swan one. I'm a huge fan of the birds cuz of the beak is so pointed and looks amazing when you put it on the mask! Always loved that style and if I were to ever go to a mask party I would want a white swan or a black one because it looks so awesome!

Oooh, new bird-mask! :D I love the colours - the dove-gray works really well against the yellow - and I'm getting the feeling of some kind of Comedia dell'Arte-character, almost. Really nice. :)

AHHHHHHHHHHH African Harrier Hawk!! :D I recognized this before even seeing the title! It's so recognizable (and translates great as a mask).

I'm curious. What percentage of your mask designs do you actually make more than one of?

My security changed a few times so just in case you didn't see...I'm not on LJ right now at all. Not until July at the earliest. If you need to talk to me, email or call, okay? :)

I will look that bird up. (Never heard of him before so must see...)
