Black and Blue Asian Dragon by merimask Black and Blue Asian Dragon by merimask
I haven't made one of my Asian dragons in some time, so I decided to do one over the weekend. This guy's really sharp; black with pthalo blue metallic flames accented with bright gold.

As ever, this is made from handcarved 8oz leather, hand formed without molds and painted with Liquitex acrylics. Available right now exclusively at my online shop: [link]

Gorgeous, I love how the flames overlay each other. And the gold works really well with the blue.

This is a seriously nice colour-combination. The black and the blue work well together, but the gold accents really make it stand out. It's impressive and beautiful and intimidating all at once. :D

I love blue with any warm metallic accent; blue & copper, bronze, gold...it's an interesting contrast that also reminds me of Egyptian art.

I thought it was some kind of concept art, but then I realized it was an actual mask you had made. Awesome!

Okay, so if I can't afford to commission you for a custom one in the next few years, I want one of these for sure!

Does this work similar to sculpture? I mean, with the molding it in place, and carving out the details.

Thank you. :-)

On the front page of my DA site, under the blue cat mask, there are links to tutorials showing how I sculpt these.

Loving the detail on this, did you hand carve the scales or did you paint them to get a 3D effect?

That's all hand-tooled. It's actually 3d.

Thank you...same shaping I always do with my dragons, but I think the carving makes it more pronounced with this design.
