Black and Gold Rabbit Mask by merimask Black and Gold Rabbit Mask by merimask
Here's another rabbit mask based on the Black Rabbit of Inle', a character in the novel "Watership Down"...one of my favorite books. Another custom order from my etsy shop: [link]

As ever, this is made from hand-carved, hand shaped 8oz tooling leather. Painted with Liquitex acrylics in black and bright gold. The stone inlay is snowflake obsidian.

Very beautiful looking

But, I'm sure as others have told you, it looks more like a cat (a lynx) than it does a rabbit/hare

I remember seeing this earlier in your gallery and liking it, and I still really like it! The stone really adds to that sense of majesty that the rabbits hold to the Black Rabbit.

Didn't you do this one in silver a while back? I love it with the gold, and the snowflake obsidian provides a nice, subtle touch of luxury.
The black rabbit didn't make much of an impact on me when I read the book, but when I saw the movie, oh man! I was scared for weeks.

Gorgeous designs. I really need to read that book again...
Was it the client that requested the gold coloring? Just as a personal preference I would think that silver against black would better represent the Black Rabbit of Inle' (being represented by the moon) but then I love all black and metallic pairings.
Great work as always

This is awesome. I love the shape and pattern, and the colours work beautifully. I vaguely remember the Black Rabbit (it's been so long since I read Watership Down, or watched the movie), but I can safely say that regardless of whether your design sticks to the original or not, it's still beautiful.

Initially I clicked on this because it reminded me of the Bioshock masks, but when I found out that it is actually the Black Rabbit of Inle I was delighted beyond words! This is such a beautiful mask and amazing care and dedication has obviously gone into making this.

I loved the Watership Down books and I wish the Black Rabbit of Inle's story was expanded a bit more in the film, he has an amazing story. Along with Prince of rabbits.

this is such a beautiful mask, and really suits the watership down 'death rabbit' as it were. Stupid book makes me cry every time. Really like the rabbit nose, and the mouth area.

It's so awesome! I would like this mask better if it wasn't a rabbit but just a normal mask with the same design and color. The ears I like alot too though!

I watched the animated Watership Down movie when I was little. So traumatic. That rabbit (all the rabbits really, and the cat, and the bird, and the dog...) will always freak me out. The mask is beautiful though!

Thank you. :-) It is pretty heavily stylized. The character it's based on is not a real rabbit either...more like the rabbit version of "Death".

Definitely read the book! It's a classic.
