Burgundy and Silver Wolf Mask by merimask Burgundy and Silver Wolf Mask by merimask
Burgundy and silver is like the color du jour lately, as far as commissions go.

This wolf was commissioned from my Etsy shop [link] which is exploding lately...seriously. If anyone out there is considering getting a mask from me for Halloween this year, contact me soon. I'm utterly swamped with special requests.

This mask, like all my masks, is hand carved & hand shaped without molds from 8oz leather. Painted with Liquitex Acrylics.

Very bold colour combo. Reminds me a bit of Darth Maul's very intense colour patterns on the face. To me, it's conveying a very Alpha demeanour. And that's the mask alone. With the right costume and persona assumed by the wearer, it could definitely be intimidating!

True! I like this burgundy better than the bright red I usually use, too. It's more subtle I think.

Wow, outstanding detail. Dig the colors as well--must've taken quite some time.

Whoa, this design is so cool. the black and red make it look like "dark, mysterious fire" or something. I really like on this design where on the edges of the fur you cut bits of the leather back to look like clumps of fur sticking out. I'm not explaining this well, but you know what I'm talking about, right? It's a really clever effect.

Thanks! Yes, I know what you mean. I do those cutouts as a way of adding dimension without having to glue on separate pieces. :-) Fast, easy & they keep a large mask lightweight by not adding bulk.

Oh. My. God. This is seriously one of my favourite masks you've ever done. The colours work beautifully, the shape is wonderful - everything just works, and it's beautiful. :D

Thank you. :-) This 3/4 angle in the picture really does show the dimensionality better than a head-on shot does, for sure.

Absolutely gorgeous! Of course, my love for red and black is already known, but I really love the way it comes together here with the fine details.

Thanks! You know...I think I like this burgundy shade even better than the candy-apple red I use when I do red & black. It's not exactly muted, but it is richer and less jarring to the eye.

It's not a really "purple" burgundy either (some are), nor is it brown. I do love these Liquitex colors...they're nicely graded.

This is beautiful! I can also see this in grays, whites and silvers, like a winter wolf.

Yes, white with silver would be lovely...maybe with pewter instead of black for the nose/eyes. A Winter Wolf. Hmm...!
