Coyote Leather Mask by merimask Coyote Leather Mask by merimask
I was looking through my gallery the other day...couldn't believe I failed to share my Coyote mask design. I was so proud of this one, too!

Like all my masks, this is hand carved & hand shaped 8oz leather. All the little hairs are cut by hand with a ceramic swivel knife. Then it's painted with a combination of Liquitex acrylic paints and Tandy's acrylic black antiquing medium, to accentuate the carving.

This mask can be ordered from my Etsy shop: [link]

Instantly recognizable as a coyote from the proportions and markings. I love all the little fur details.

I see those critters wandering around down here every so often. Totemically, they're quite the trickster.

Absolutely gorgeous. This looks just like them. I came practically face to face with one once and the resemblance is uncanny. Great job!

Me too! They're everywhere...even here in Western NY state. I saw one trot across the road once...so wild but beautiful. Little tan wolf.

When I saw the thumbnail, I thought the fox had tribal tattoos. :) (It was the two tone fur!)

True! Actually, I think a lot of tribal patterns and designs come from nature anyway. It wouldn't surprise me if that's what native artists were going for; a stylized depiction of natural animal markings.

Really nice! The "eyeliner" beneath the eyes is cool :D And the combination of colours too. I love it!

Thank you! I researched several pictures of coyotes...the markings are pretty close to nature really...I only had to stylize a few small elements. Coyotes are actually very pretty canids.
