I've been so busy filling orders for the Mardi Gras season. Mostly I've been doing the same masks over & over, but this one is a new & interesting version of an older mask, so I figured I'd share.
This version of my Jeweled Dragon mask is (like all my masks) made from one piece of 8oz leather. Hand carved, hand shaped with no molds or forms, and painted with Liquitex acrylics. I did the bulk of the face in "verdigris", a combination of dark green with aqua green drybrushed over it & then bright bronze stippled atop that, and then a layer of brown antiquing medium over the whole thing. It's a lot of extra steps but it looks pretty neat when you do it right.
I also inlaid red jade in the center, & added red Swarovski crystals to the eyes (not too much bling...I didn't want to overdo it). The borders which I usually do black are dark brown this time...makes the whole dragon seem more earthy & friendly in my opinion.
This was a custom order from my Etsy shop...you can contact me there for prices & requests: [link]
