I had a heck of a time photographing this mask. I tried yesterday but it just would NOT stop snowing, and the big fat flakes really show up well on such a dark mask. Poo.

This is the dark version of my new timber wolf design. In the wild, a dark-phase timber wolf might be called "black", but they're far from a simple black. They have reddish-brown areas and gray ticking on their cheeks and brows...really they're quite varied and lovely.

This mask (like all my masks) is carved from one piece of 8oz leather. I carve all the fur details by hand, wet-form the mask without a mold, set it with heat, and paint it with Liquitex acrylics. The fur details are accented by drybushing layers of paint over the carved surface.

This mask is available right now in my Etsy shop..."Dark Timber Wolf #1" [link]

I have 2 questions
1.) What tools do you use to work with the leather
2.) I saw VERY similar masks at the Ohio ren fest, do you ever set up there?
B.T.W. I love your works

I love the carving and color details on this exquisite wolf mask! You are very right about the color phases, even on my black cat Tink if you look closely its brownish in direct light and sometimes you can see stripes :)

True, I was surprised when I did my research to find that black timber wolves are so colorful.

One thing I really admire about your work is the designs that you include in the fur texture.

Very nice.

Thank you. The best part of making masks from thicker leather is the fact that it can be carved deeply without damaging the structure of the finished mask. This allows me to get detailed. :-)
