Desert Cat Leather Mask

I just finished another Desert Cat mask...this one is a bit different with a touch of blue added. The most stunning part of the desert is the blue sky above all those beautiful bronzes and golds, in my opinion, so that's where I was going with the color scheme.

Like all my work, this is 8oz veg-tanned tooling leather, hand shaped & hand carved. I use a Western tooling "seed" stamp to get my perfect tiny dots, but everything else is carved by hand with a ceramic 1/4 angle swivel blade. Painted with colorfast Liquitex acrylics. I mixed my own beige tones. The dark brown has bright bronze paint drybrushed over it, to give it a distressed (but shimmery) look. Blue Swarovski crystals added for extra sparkle.

I made this as a gift for my brother, who has a cool southwestern-style mansion on the edge of the desert in Nevada. I think it'll fit nicely into his decor.
