I am super happy with this new color version of my Persian Cat mask.

It's a custom mask in pale brown, gold, copper and dark brown/bronze. With gold Swarovski crystals. I'm calling it a "desert Persian cat" because it looks all sandy desert-colored to me. It's part of a special order for a pair of masks for an "Owl And Pussycat"-themed masquerade party. I'm working on a barn owl to match this cat. They'll be the most awesome pair at the party.

Like all my masks, this one is made of 8oz leather. Hand carved & hand shaped with no stamps or forms, and painted with Liquitex acrylics.

Out of all your masks, this one definitely caught my eye. It's very elegant and supremely beautiful. You should come down to New Orleans one weekend and set up a booth at the french market right before Mardi Gras. You'd do very well, I'm sure.
I do have a question for you though, if you don't mind. Is your line work cut or indention done with a stylus?

Thanks...I was very happy with this one too. :-)

I use a 1/4 angle ceramic swivel knife...it's a tooling knife you can buy at any leather craft store (Tandy). I also carve very deeply, plus I bevel with a smooth-head tool all along the edge of the cut, to add a deeper 3-d effect. Most people don't do that...

Many of my tools are from Tandy as well, but from a generation ago (I inherited dad's leather box) and I am just starting out in this beautiful art form. I appreciate the insight from such a talented artist as yourself! :)
