Draco Temporis V1 dragon maskby *merimask

What's better than steampunk goggles? A Victorian steampunk monocle on one of my signature leather dragon masks. I've been working towards this design for a few weeks now...I'm considering it a personal triumph. "Draco Temporis"; dragon of time.

The mask is hand carved from one piece of 8oz leather, shaped with no mold or form by hand, painted black, rich antiqued brown and burnished gold with colorfast acrylics, and sealed with a clear acrylic for protection.

The monocle is half of a pair of retro-look lightweight PVC driving goggles (the right eye). It is custom-fitted to the mask (the hole behind it matches the shape of the opening) and secured with real oxidized brass studs and fasteners. The cap may be unscrewed and the 50mm lens replaced. This mask comes with one dark gray acrylic goggle lens.

I'm especially proud of the antiqued brass assemblage of my own design (cobbled together from bits and pieces of various brass fittings), which fastens a double magnification loop (5x and 10X) to the side of the goggle cup. The arms may be adjusted to swing down, swing up and out of the way, or allow one loop at a time to be lowered. Those jeweler's loops come attached to a really ugly alligator clamp. I thought this looked much better...more "Victorian".

The mask is also decorated with an assortment of real antique brass clockwork parts.

I had a boatload of fun making this design. It's been knirping for attention in the back of my brain for so long...it was a relief to finally build it.
