Just because spring's not quite here yet, doesn't mean it's not coming. I can feel the difference in the angle of the sun already, and the air smells less like snow and more like wet earth every day. Soon...soon.

As ever, this mask is carved from one piece of 8oz leather and shaped by hand. I tooled this one deeply & used a textured bevel around the flowers, to add depth. Painted with liquitex acrylics. I did a brown wash over the background and drybrushed rich gold atop that, for an antiqued effect.

This is beautiful! I know that you posted this over a year ago but I just stumbled upon your page by accident, then recognized your masks as the ones I wanted so badly to buy at ICon when I was in college, but never was able to!

I think it would be very interesting to see a mask like this, Japanese inspired but with white, like a geiko!

Looks lovely! I think you did a great job, and I like the texture around the loose petals.

Thanks! The beveler I used to tool the depressions around the petals has a crosshatch pattern to it, so it gives a nice texture & depth to the tooling.

Yeah I rather like that one myself!! I've got smooth, textured, and lined bevelers...tho I tend to use the lined ones for more stems and vines than actual beveling so far <3

OK. I don't like pink, but I love this as the pink is very appropriate to the cherry blossom as it appears in nature.. It's absolutely gorgeous!

Thank you. :-) I don't like pink much either, but I mixed a soft neutral "shell pink" and drybrushed layers of white over it, so it came out very neutral and natural.
