Golden Wolf...leather mask by merimask Golden Wolf...leather mask by merimask
Here is another brand new version of my very popular wolf mask design; Golden Wolf.

Like all my masks, it is made entirely from one piece of 8oz leather; carved and shaped by hand without the use of stamps, molds or forms. It's painted with a combination of acrylic paints and acrylic antiquing stains (in shades of gold over brown, to get a burnished effect). The painting took a lot longer than I thought it would.

This is an experiment...I don't think this will be the final version of the Golden Wolf mask (I might try some design that's more like the Asian flame motif).

This mask will be available (briefly I'm thinking!) at my Etsy shop: [link]

SO CUTE! :D How much would a custom black one be? I want to be a Black wolf for Halloween and I want my costume to be ready now so I don't do it the day before. ;) Thanks!

I love all of your work so much, I wish I could work with leather like you do. On second thought, I just wish I could work with leather! Haha

That's gorgeous. I love the big black stripes under the eyes--they're very intense

Fantastic! I like both masks, but I think the flames here are a tad more to my taste, because they have something fur-like about the way they fray at the edges...

I want to try this one again soon but with a darker brown base to offset the gold more. Or maybe black. Hmm...

excelent mask as usual. I almost want to see a darker brown on the wolf itself. not to much darker. just enough to bring out the gold a bit more.

Thankk you! Actually I agree; my second version of this Golden Wolf is already being worked on; I did an under-dye of darker brown, with bright gold atop that & a black stain wash to set it in further contrast...should be ready to share in another day. :-)

The burnished effect is really beautiful. I can't wait to see an asian flame motif version though. :)

Thank you!

Yes, I'm probably finishing an Asian "flame" wolf this week in fact...had to move that project up 'cause I got so much positive feedback for this one. :-)

how long does it take you to make a mask start to finish after the concept design has been decided upon?

It depends. It goes much faster if I've done the mask before. This one was about 6 hours not including drying time.
