Inari Leather Mask by merimask Inari Leather Mask by merimask
This is a new design I quite like...the Japanese sumi-e elements on the cheeks and inside the ears make this look like a fantasy kitsune, or perhaps Inari (a goddess that often appears as a beautiful white fox). I suspect I'll be doing a lot more of these.

This mask is (like everything I do) made from one piece of hand carved, hand sculpted leather. Painted with colorfast Liquitex acrylics & sealed with an acrylic clear coat for durability.

This is a signed, dated, numbered original. "Inari #1" Available right now (but not for long, I bet!) in my Etsy shop: [link]

Beautiful!

I have a question: Do you do the tooling before or after you shape it?

Amazing detail. Most of took a little while making those fur markings, even though it's very simple it's very brilliant how you made it pop by using the black and white solid parts to make the eyes center more to the face. Love how it turned out!

That's a very charming style. Delicate without being 'soft' or fragile in appearance.
