Here's another mask that was a departure for me. I don't usually make masks of human faces but this was a special request for the Egyptian goddess Isis, in half-mask form

I had some trepidation about the headdress...seemed evocative of Hathor to me but it was what the customer wanted. In the end I was pretty happy with the way she turned out.

Carved as always from one piece of 8oz leather, hand tooled & hand painted with Liquitex acrylics.

Custom work (like this) can be ordered from my Etsy shop: [link]

Holy crap, your masks are awesome! Don't think me creepy for favoriting every mask on your page. They're just SO awesome!

This is very neat! I love masks and I am a theatrical ritualist and temple dancer so I can appreciate these! I would love to see a Hathor mask. I actually am working on leather ears for a Hathor costume.

Very different, but cool!
The realistic nose part looks funny and cartoon-y, though. But if that's what the customer wanted, then...That's what the customer wanted, haha.

I agree...doing a nose on top of a real nose was fraught with peril. I decided to keep it simple...

When Isis rose in popularity as a love goddess she absorbed many of Hathor's characteristics, including the horned disk headdress. There are quite a few images that show her wearing it instead of her original throne headdress.

Cool...that explains all the crossover symbology. Frankly the disk was much easier to depict than the throne would have been, anyway. :-)

Thanks for the insight!
