Kayak Koi

Description

This has ~nothing~ to do with masks, but I just had to share this picture. I painted this koi on my kayak yesterday in about an hour, because I thought it might be fun to have a koi on my kayak. :-)

It's my favorite kind of koi; the lucky three-colored kind. I think they're called Showa? Tansho Showa? Something like that. I used to know. I made the tail all long and fantastic like one of those dragon koi or butterfly koi or whatever the type...because it's my boat and because I can. I sketched it on there (in white paint) in about 5 minutes.

The kayak is a 12 foot Wilderness Pamlico. I love it because it's small enough to be maneuverable, but it is pretty fast and tracks straight. Very stable in the waves.

I used my favorite Liquitex paints, and when it was very dry I sealed it with a waterproof acrylic spray. I know this should last a good long time because I paint all kinds of things around the house this way (garden rocks, my mailbox, the garbage can!).

I might end up adding some Japanese-looking waves to this. Or maybe a second koi. Not sure! One thing's for sure; my kayak is going to be utterly unique! ;-)

At the pet store we used to call them Butterfly Koi, and I always wanted one, but as I live in an apartment, a pond is out of the question. They're soooooo pretty, and I love the one you painted on there! I think you should add a second koi and the waves :D
