Large Burgundy Dragon Mask by merimask Large Burgundy Dragon Mask by merimask
Here is another really elaborate mask, commissioned from my Etsy shop [link] ... a Burgundy Dragon.

It's basically the same design as my Frost Dragon, but in a new color scheme I've never done before; burgundy with silver accents and pewter horns.

I usually pair red masks with gold accents, but I have to say this was a nice surprise.

Made from several pieces of 8oz tooling leather, hand carved and shaped without a mold. Painted with Liquitex acrylics.

I'm so glad you were happy with it. :-) I'd never done one in those colors before but I have to say, you came up with a stunning color combination. Burgundy + pewter was very pretty.

Thanks!

Yes, I'm using something called "Goop" [link]

It's a glue/sealant and the bond sets in minutes and is flexible & lasts forever. I use it for all my glueing.

Burgundy/silver works quite well - it just leaves a slightly colder impression than a red/gold combo. This might benefit from a few darker shadows here and there - like beneath the eyebrows and such - but other than that, it looks great. :D

I'm always impressed with all the tiny details you manage to cram into your works.

thank you...I agree about darker. I did a wash of black antiquing medium but didn't want to do more than that, since the theme didn't include much black.

Hooooly dang. This is awesome. I like the combination of fur and scales on his snout, and how the fur like.. comes off his face and curls forward. The tipped in silver was a very nice touch too, along with the silver/black horns.

Thanks! Yeah, these huge dragons are a massive amount of carving but the end result is always dramatic. :-)

I didn't either! I was hesitant but the customer is always right ( & in this case she really was). :-)

It's really lovely in the burgandy and silver. Some places kinda look like beef jerky and it makes me want to chew on it XD But take that as a compliment. It's a beautiful piece. Color looks very nice on it. *nod*

LOL...jerky dragon? Bacon dragon? It is made out of a by-product of the beef industry, after all. ;-)
