Persian Mask by merimask Persian Mask by merimask
I called this a "Persian Mask" simply because the idea for this design came to me one night when I was staring at a Persian Rug I own. You can see the mosque designs in the corners.

It is a super-comfortable mask to wear, & was one of my most popular designs. I need to make more of these.

I intentionally used a LOT of different colors because I wanted it to go with everything.

You can purchase my masks online here: [link]

This is one of my favorite pieces by you. It's not as involved as some of the really amazing animal/etc. ones, but it's absolutely gorgeous.

Thank you. I think it was a really good "wearable" design...went with everything & non-representational. So it has a wider appeal. :-)

dunno if many ppl commented on the shape, but I do love it! making it with corners instead of all rounded makes it so attractive to me :)

Thanks, yes you are the first (I think) to notice the different shape! :-) I needed more corners for all the mosque designs that I wanted to add, so a design with extra angles worked best.

Hmm, I remember you having a Persian mask, and yet...I don't remember this one! I love this type though, it's my favourite...the masks that don't overtly represent anything else and are mostly just graphic. I don't know why that is my preference, but it is! Masks that look like animals may not be as much to my liking because animals don't interest me much? I don't know, but I love this one and would probably love it in any colour at all. :)

Well thank you. :-) It is a good non-representational design, so it's great for an exotic effect that doesn't turn you into an animal or character but just makes you more...glamorous. ;-)

Very lovely! I love the simplicity of the design, yet it commands a certain respect. It feels like something drawn from the past, yet it's fresh and new instead of old and worn. It reminds me that history is always repeating itself. Very well done, and whether the design was inspired by something else or not, there are few things nowadays that aren't inspired by something, besides, it's nice to bring in a few ancient patterns (persian rugs are great, I love them!)and breathe new life into them. :+fav:! :D

Thanks so much. :-) I have always loved Persian rugs too, & it took some wrangling to design something that was evocative of that motif (without looking like a piece of the actual rug). I was very happy with this design...

I really love this mask. I have one I bought from a Cirque du Soleil show, Corteo, paid an insanely high price for it, but I HAD to have it. Basic mask shape, harlequin black/white diamond pattern, with a gold trim. I wouldn't mind having this one to add to my collection

@_@; The colors, pattern and design work is impressive without being overpowering - Your website really has a beatiful selection of masks that are very reasonably priced for hand-worked leather. :)
When I consider what I could pay for Italian Commedia Del Arte masks that are papier mache. :P

I really like the color choices you made for this one. The brown stain lets the texture of the leather assert itself, and it makes for good contrast with the geometric design.

I like that stain too; it's a medium brown antiquing stain so it's meant to show the grain & creases in the leather...plus it's an acrylic so I can use it over my paint safely.

True...it's probably the weathered-looking brown (I use an antiquing stain which really shows the grain of the leather).
