Ra Falcon Mask by merimask Ra Falcon Mask by merimask
I've had so many requests to make this mask...so here he is! This is a traditional depiction of Ra, sun god of ancient Egypt, interpreted as a falcon with a sun disc headdress. It is made entirely from one piece of 8oz leather, hand carved & shaped without molds or forms, then dyed & painted with colorfast Liquitex acrylics in rich gold, royal blue & black.

This mask is a limited, numbered design...#2 of the first three. Available right now in my Etsy shop: [link]

I like the clean, simple lines of this one. The three colours of gold, black and azure really set off the classic iconography.

Okay, this one? I love it. I've seen your Anubis masks and was kinda wondering if there would ever be a falcon mask, and HERE IT IS! I'm so happy to see how you made it.
I've been trying to make a Horus mask myself (although not in leather but ... everything else :p ), but haven't gotten very far. This one though ... I love it. Especially the beak, for some reason.
Well done in deed.

Thank you! I stayed very faithful to traditional depictions of Horus and Ra for this. As with all the Egyptian masks, the Egyptians already did the difficult work of design...I'm just adapting their work into my mask technique. ;-)

Nice! :D I like the patterns around the eyes - they look very stylised, but at the same time, they're very reminiscent of feathers, which works out really well.

Thank you. :-) I can't really take credit for that. It's a pretty literal rendition of the Egyptian "Eye Of Horus" motif, which is exactly what it seems to be; a stylized depiction of the markings around a falcon's eye.

Thank you...I try to match the color of lapis with the blue paint, because the Egyptians often used inlaid lapis on their gold masks. :-)
