I haven't made one of these in quite a while! :-)

This is a fanciful cat mask done in the Venetian style. However, unlike a true Venetian mask (which is made of lightweight leather that is embellished with plaster & precious metal leaf & is VERY delicate), this mask is made with my own unique technique involving heavy-weight leather that is deeply hand carved. This achieves the ~look~ of a Venetian mask but is durable enough to wear anywhere, indoors or out. Even safe to travel with (the perfect mask to tuck in your suitcase on your next trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras!)

The leather is carved, shaped, hardened with heat, then painted with colorfast Liquitex acrylics in black, white, red, gold, and bright silver. It is sealed with a waterproof clear coat, for durability.

Man, I swear to all that is holy that I WILL get a mask (or two...) from you someday!! The more awesome pieces you submit, the more I want. *sigh*

Swirrrrls! :D I like that you used different colored swirls for each background color :-). Next month, I'm flying to Venice, I will keep my eyes open for masks ^^. But since I prefer durable, I propebly won't buy one there. But looking at the designs is so much fun :D
