This is a mask inspired by Steampunk...I called it "Full Steam".
It is carved out of one piece of 8oz leather by hand...I never use stamps or molds in my process. I painted this with some wonderful Liquitex acrylics in great gold-through-copper tones. Finished with a brown antiquing stain I mixed myself.
The mask is a detail of the workings of a German watch dating back to 1890. I kept the scrollwork & flourishes because I think that's the essence of Steampunk; Antique Technology.
This mask was a real departure for me, stylistically. I had a lot of fun with it.
It appeared on the cover of Artvoice magazine, the February 19, 2009 issue.
As ever, this mask & others are available at my Etsy shop: [link]
... so let me get this straight. A mask - a tool you use for anything BUT steam; you name Full Steam? Uhm... that's awkward. And no, this is not steampunk. Steampunk is related to steam... among other things that has nothing to do with masks.
