Here's another of those masks that I can't ~believe~ I failed to share in here. I went looking for it today in my "birds" mask gallery & I was like "where the heck is my art nouveau swan??" Anyway, here it is.
Carved from one piece of 8oz leather, hand-shaped and painted with Liquitex acrylics. I wanted the whole figure of a swan as a mask, but the figure wasn't dynamic enough, or balanced (swans are very very small at one end and MUCH bigger at the other) so I added a sort of baroque flowing ribbon design to tie the figure together. Besides, the startling red against white is pretty cool, in my opinion.
Haven't made this mask except for this one example, but if you'd like to order one, contact me at my online Etsy shop: [link]
Hi *merimask, I was wondering if you could like help me with an idea for a mask because I will be entering a competition and I need some ideas. THX! By the way, this mask is very pretty and I want to know how you make it exactly because you said it was carved from 8oz leather and I can't believe that this is handmade. I mean like WOW. This is totally awesome.
Oh, this is really quite something else. It's very playful and beautiful and so different from most masks that actually depict a face of some sort or are just a mask "canvas". Love it.
