Tawny Sekmeht Leather Mask by merimask Tawny Sekmeht Leather Mask by merimask
Here's a new mask...a new version of my Sekmeht design.

I usually paint her bright gold with bright blue, to simulate gilded and lapis inlay. The Sekmeht I saw in the King Tut exhibit when I was a kid looked just like that.

However, a client from my Etsy shop [link] requested a more realistically-colored lioness, so I did this & I have to say, I like it better than the gold version!

Sekmeht is the Egyptian goddess of war and chaos. I think it's cool that the Egyptians were okay with a powerful god like that being female...says a lot about their culture in my opinion.

Like all my masks, this is hand carved, hand shaped leather. Painted with Liquitex acrylics.

Shes my favorite goddess for sure, and following her are Anubis and Bastet. Apparently she was a lover of beer XDD

This is a beautiful mask and a wonderful concept.I also agree about the female god comment. It's too bad that the ideals and culture and people just disappeared. It makes you wonder what would have happened if they were still around.

Very elegant, bold and intent. The wearer's eyes will be beautifully set off by the khol effect on the mask's eyes!

That's really amazing. It would be cool to see you make one. Do you have a video? (or are thinking of making one in the future?)

Oh, hell yes. Sekmeht is my favorite ancient Egyptian diety, right beside Set.

I love the vibrant blue!
I watched you on the Martha Stewart show. It was fun to watch how you make the masks!
