The Holly Dragon by merimask The Holly Dragon by merimask
Not a mask this time; this is a wall sculpture almost two feet in diameter, depicting a white dragon nestled among some holly leaves.

Everything you see on this plaque was made of leather, except for the holly berries and the dragon's eyes. Those are made of carnelian stone beads.

This piece took about 40 hours to carve and construct. I've made several of them...all of dragons in different kinds of foliage. I know this one looks a little "christmas"-ish, but really, the person who commissioned it just really liked holly. ^_^

Wow! Absolutely beautiful! I can't get past the detail work of forming the dragons neck/head from the leather.. I adore how you've got the holly going down his back :) I'd be giddy to have something like this up on my wall during the Christmas season!

Wow, what a splendid and beautiful piece! We especially like the detailing around the Dragon's head and face. It almost feels real! It seems one of our Eggs likes it as well. :)

Thanks! They're easy to make but tedious as heck when there are SO many of them...

Thank you. People love these plaques but I don't have enough time to make them anymore. They take days & days to build.

Very cool stuff. You should take an angled view for your scraps so we can see the depth of the piece as well. The dragon looks absolutely awesome; you could probably sell something similar as stand-alone pieces for wall-hangings or even just sitting sculptures. :D

Yes I should do that...I never thought about it but yeah, scraps is a good place for the detail pics. :-)

I love your masks to death but I have to say your wall hangings are always utter masterpieces. All that detail..! Such a beautiful little dragon. I can't wait to see the others!

Thanks! I have to go digging in my archives & see what I can find, picture-wise. I haven't done one of these in about a year (they just take too long!)

Oh, they aren't something I carry all the time because they are REALLY expensive (they take days to make). I do take orders there, though. :-)

:faint: I am so excited about these pieces. A mask I have difficulty justifying to my checkbook, but a wall hanging... hmmmm!

I do them as custom pieces. That way you can choose your foliage & all your colors...even for the dragon. :-)

How much does a custum order go for (abouts) I had to cancle a commission for a dragon mask recently from another artist who was unable to complete it. I actual like these sculptures better.

Well...these pieces are $475. For that price you get an 18 to 20 inch diameter circular plaque with any kind of foliage on it and one dragon in any color you like. The dragon has matching foliage carved up the spine. You pick the eye color/stone as well (I'll let you know what I have available).

It's a signed, dated, numbered piece (unless it's a copy of one I have already done, yours is #1), with a wire attached to the back for hanging.

Shipping is included in the price.
