White and Black Persian Mask by merimask White and Black Persian Mask by merimask
This mask was commissioned on my Etsy site; a white, black, silver & pewter "Persian" leather mask.

It's called a Persian mask 'cause the pattern is based on my Persian rug. I usually do it in more traditional neutral tones like brown with gold & red (see elsewhere in my gallery for other examples) but this was a special request & I like the way it turned out.

Like all my work, this is hand-carved, hand shaped 8 oz leather, painted with Liquitex acrylic paints. I do take custom requests all the time at my Etsy shop: [link]

This might seem fairly simple compared to other masks in your gallery but a I think the shape and the design still make it remarkable.

This one is also lovely, but more bold in its contrast than the darker one. Would definitely put the focus on the wearer's eyes. :)

You know, I think the other one is more visually striking. This is beautiful, and it's a custom job, but I think the silver as it currently stands is a little too bright and blends with the white. That may be a trick of the camera, too.

That being said, it's a gorgeous piece. I still adore the Persian mask designs and the custom colors just rock those designs like whoa.

I really, really love the pattern on these Persian masks - they're gorgeous and geometrical and swirly and just beautiful. I really like how they look in red/gold/brown, but the black-n-white combo turned out very nicely too.

Good job! :)

Thank you! Yes, I think the black & white combo really accentuates the patterns even more. It's not as "Persian"-looking but it's definitely more graphically striking.

This mask is simply amazing :) If you don't mind my asking, how much did you charge for this custom piece?

Persian masks are $95. I really should have charged a bit more for these black & white versions because the painting was painstaking & took longer than I thought, but I don't usually charge extra for custom colors & I didn't want to be a jerk. :-)

Thanks! Yes, I do take an awfully long time painting & I'm very careful. Many leather masks are airbrushed to save time but I take pride in my carving & the only way to really accent it correctly is with careful painting. :-)
