Artist's Comments
So, "Circus Juventas" in Minneapolis ( [link] ) is the largest not-for-profit youth theater production company in the world, and they've asked me to make masks for their upcoming production "Yulong".
The red dragon is the important one...I like the way it turned out. I left out the trademark "catfish whiskers" from the muzzle, 'cause this mask is going to be worn in an epic final battle scene with the actors flying through the air on bungees, and I thought whiskers might get in the way. I hope the horns won't be too troublesome for the acrobat wearing it! Anyhoo, I really hope they like them. Since it's a NFP organization I gave them a great break on the price, and they gave me a full-page ad in the program. So my awesome brother John is designing something beautiful for me, which will hopefully send lots of people in the Twin City area straight to my Etsy shop ( [link] ). It does my heart good to think that my masks will be on a stage again. ^_^ Really, I think I'm quite in love with the idea of doing theater costuming. It's so rewarding. |
