My dear husky Kiba died in my arms last August and I said "no more", and decided to swear off dogs forever because they are heartbreakers.

That lasted about four months.

This is my darling puppy Carmen.  She is about 4 months old and is already amazing and smart and funny and SO fluffy.  She's a miniature American Shepherd (basically a mini Australian Shepherd) and will be the smallest dog I've ever had.  I kind of miss my big guy, but she really is so darn cute.  :)

Carmen Profile by merimask

She already walks nicely on lead, catches a little fabric frisbee, does several basic obedience things, is house trained, and LOVES cuddles.  She's so different from a husky, it's amazing.

Love never dies.

Ah :(
I am so sorry for your loss.
I had that too....NO MOAR!

Yeah 5 years later I have 3 dogs.
1st one (mini Kokoni dog) patted the Pharmacy door every morning for days...and i gave in.
2nd one was a puppy in the street bloated with worms....gave in.
3rd one was an huge/oversized Central Asian Shepherd that was going to be put doww the same day I saw him...guess what. I gave in.

Having had dogs all my life, I know what you mean. The longest I lasted was a year... then a puppy wriggled her way past my defenses. I currently have two of the smallest dogs I've ever owned. It was quite an adjustment, especially with the amount of food they eat. I was initially constantly worried I wasn't giving them enough, lol!

Congrats on opening your heart to canine love again, she's adorable!

I decided the exact same thing when I lost my 16-year-old bugg (Boston terrier/pug mix), Inky, in 2006. I got her in kindergarten and she died when I was away at my senior of college, and in a way I'm glad I wasn't present to say goodbye. My family's resolve lasted quite a bit longer than yours at a little less than two and a half years, and that's when we got our current bugg, Sushi. She is probably the strangest dog I have ever encountered with her personality and mannerisms, so she's definitely entertaining. We regularly tell her "You are a weird little dog." lol

Awwww, she's so adorable! I'm glad you decided to get her. It is better to have loved and lost than never loved at all. :)

I understand. I still haven't completely moved on from when my dog had to be put down a little over 3 years ago. She was my first dog and one of the biggest personalities I've known.

But you always have place and love in your heart for a new little (or big) one that will be just as special in their own way :3

It's hard losing a pet. I lost my Brittney Spaniel back in 2011.

When you've had a wonderful companion in your life you always worry that you'll never share that kind of bond again. I'm glad you opened your heart to a new puppy and wisely to a different breed so that contrasts are more important than direct comparisons.

She's a beauty and it sounds like she has brains too. Good luck with her.

I know the pain of losing pets, but...it seems like once you've had one, you can never live without one. They fill too much of a hole in our hearts that can't be taken by anything else.

It's never easy losing a pet - they really are family. But I'm glad you have a new companion to help ease your heart n_n She looks like a little darling!
